"Famous star and prima ballerina"
Angelina, "Lights, Camera, Action"

Angelina Ballerina is a British animated children's television series, based on the Angelina Ballerina series of children's books by author Katharine Holabird and illustrator Helen Craig. Because both PBS and HiT Entertainment co-owned Sprout when the channel was launched, they aired a variety of shows from both their archive libraries on Sprout, including reruns of Angelina Ballerina.

Plot

"Angelina Ballerina is a little star with big dreams of becoming a prima ballerina. This feisty little mouse works hard to reach her goal and along the way, always learns from her mistakes. When little girls share in Angelina's experiences, they're inspired to go after their big dreams too!" (link)

For Parents

"Did you know preschoolers love to "talk" with their bodies? Let them express themselves through dance and movement!"

History on Sprout

The show was one out of many to be aired on Sprout On Demand, with selected episodes airing under the "Children's Favorites" label (and eventually in its own label). It joined the network at launch in 2005.

The show aired at 11AM and 8:30PM ET when Sprout launched, and later at 4PM when The Sprout Sharing Show launched, and also at 8:21PM ET on The Good Night Show. It temporarily stopped airing on the latter block in August 2009 when Rubbadubbers premiered. In 2010, when Dragon Tales stopped airing on Sprout, it returned to The Good Night Show, airing at 8:01 PM ET. In March 2011, it stopped airing on The Sharing Show, after Super WHY! premiered.

It has a Sprout Diner snack, Angelina's Ballet Slippers, and Dame Judi Dench's daughter, Finty Williams reprises her role as the titular character.

It has a Birthday Show snack, Angelina's Tutu Treat. The segment was included in a Sprout Sharing Show promo and in the Birthday Parties podcast.

In October 2011, the series was replaced with its successor, Angelina Ballerina: The Next Steps, a CGI spinoff that premiered on PBS two years prior to joining Sprout. The original show got replaced in the 8PM timeslot by Pajanimals.

The season 1 episode "The Ballerina Rag Doll" was included in Lend a Helping Hand, and "Angelina's New School" is a bonus feature on the DVD release of Safety First.

The special based on the show, "All Dancers on Deck" ("Angelina Sets Sail") aired on Sprout a few times. It premiered on April 20th, 2007 during Sprout's Dance Party[1] and aired twice during the Hooray for the Holidays festitivites the same year along with Angelina's Princess Dance.

"Angelina Ballerina and all her friends work together to put on very special dance performances this holiday season. Watch "All Dancers On Deck" on December 22 at 5pm ET and December 25! Watch "Princess Dance" on December 19 at 5pm ET, December 23 at 5pm ET and December 25!" (link)

Its Christmas special, "The Show Must Go On" aired on December 25th and 31st, 2009.
