dirtgirlworld is an Australian-Canadian children's television series created by Cate McQuillen and Hewey Eustace of Mememe Productions. The series used 3D CGI animation combined with photomontage and live action.

Plot[]

"dirtgirl’s backyard is full of friends. There’s scrapboy, her best friend, who lives next door and is a whiz with junk, grubby with her worm’s eye view, ken the weevil, a super stunt star weevil with an inferiority complex, roger the rooster and the chicks, hayman the monosyllabic scarecrow, and the green thumbs…real kids in real gardens having unreal fun." History on Sprout[]

dirtgirlworld premiered on Sprout on April 22, 2010 to celebrate Earth Day, as part of Dig Into Earth Day, with The Sunny Side Up Show featuring crafts, games, activities, meet-the-character segments, clips and music videos starting April 19th.[1] Creator Cate McQuillen said that she wanted a US home for her show that cared about kids. To promote the show's arrival, it was on the welcome page at SproutOnline.com.

"Get grubby with dirtgirl and her friends in dirtgirlworld, coming to Sprout on April 22, 2010. Play games, watch videos and color lots of things that can be found in dirtgirlworld!" (link)

It was panned by critics and audience for its creepy visuals, but was popular enough to last for 2 years on the channel.

"I do not like the looks of dirtgirlworld at all. I'm sure it has a good, positive message for children, but it is just too creepy! And their voices are creepy too! The whole thing is disturbing, and we will not be watching that show."
―Gabrielle, Sprout for Parents

The show aired daily at 4:52PM ET during The Sprout Sharing Show and 10:18AM during weekend editions of The Sunny Side Up Show. It also aired at 2:57 during The Super Sproutlet Show when said block launched. Before that, it only aired on weekends, after having been taken off The Sharing Show in November 2011.

It stopped airing on June 17, 2012, to the relief of many traumatized viewers everywhere. The following day on June 18th, episodes of the series joined Sprout On Demand.[2] dirtgirlworld remained on demand and on the app until the channel closed in 2017, it’s unknown why it stayed there.
