Earth Day IDs (2012)
Earth Day is an event celebrated each April 22nd to demonstrate support for environmental protection. The event was created by Wisconsin representative Gaylord Nelson and first held in 1970.
Sprout has celebrated Earth Day in many ways, often having its logo turn green. In 2008, Oscar the Grouch of Sesame Street fame guested on The Sunny Side Up Show to commemorate with Sean and Chica. Here, Sean and Chica gave him the "Rotten Egg Award" (a take on the Good Egg Award) and he sang "I Love Trash," his signature song.
In 2009, the channel celebrated the premiere of The Mighty Jungle for "Mighty Earth Week."
In 2010 and 2011, Sprout celebrated "Dig Into Earth Day" with the premiere of Dirtgirlworld, the first environmental series for preschoolers. During the latter year, Richard Blais appeared on The Sunny Side Up Show and taught Sean and Chica to make lollipop french toast in "Top Craft," a parody of Top Chef.
In 2012, Sprout held the Choose to Reuse contest, in which viewers were encouraged to submit photos of their recycled creation on SproutOnline.com and win a Sprout gift box. Also that year, Justin Time premiered with Justin Time for Earth Day.
In 2013, Sprout celebrated Earth Day with the premiere of Tree Fu Tom.
In 2016, Sprout celebrated Earth Day with a Maya the Bee marathon.
