• June 2004: Following the failure of PBS' 24-hour PBS Kids channel, which launched in 1999, PBS, HiT Entertainment, Sesame Workshop, and Comcast announce plans to launch a 24-hour preschool cable channel and video-on-demand service on Comcast.

2005

• April 4, 2005: Comcast launches Sprout On Demand, a service offering 55 hours of preschool programming in both English and Spanish.
