Melanie with Star.

Melanie the Babysitter appeared on The Good Night Show from the first season to the second, as Martinez was fired by Sprout executives after learning she was in two inappropriate PSAs in the early 2000s.

The show made it appear as if the actress was basically playing herself, being referred to by and acknowledging her own name.

A Hispanic babysitter figure, Melanie sat in a blue chair in The Goodnight Garden, where she looked through the Sprout-o-scope, taught stretches, played games, made crafts, and sang songs, most of which tied in with the night's "adventures" (themes), without belittling or talking down to her audience of Sproutlets. She was joined by her pet goldfish Hush, who was mainly used to introduce shows, and Helping Hand, who would help her tell Goodnight Tales. Melanie often had the power to rhyme while introducing segments, and incorporated Spanish words into the nightly curriculum.

In the second season, Melanie spoke softer, had her hair down, and was joined by Star, whom she would help get ready for bed throughout adventures.

Season 2 aired briefly in July 2006 and went off the air after Melanie was fired. Afterwards, many families stopped watching the Sprout channel. Leo and Nina filled her shoes as time went by, with the latter inheriting many traits Melanie had.

Notes[]

Jayson
  • Despite Melanie's removal in 2006, she could be seen on a birthday card for a Sproutlet named Jayson uploaded to SproutOnline.com a few years later.
  • Melanie sometimes mentioned unseen characters:
  • In the episode "Teddy Bears," Melanie mentions she has had the same teddy bear since she was just a little girl.
  • She never appeared with Lucy.
  • In the Sprout history video, Melanie was forgotten about and not mentioned, and the video put Nina's picture on an article that probably originally featured her.
  • Pictures of Melanie in the craft segments were on the craft PDFs at Sproutletsgrow.com. Once she quit the network, the pictures of her were removed.
