The Gruffalo is a 2009 British-German short computer animated TV film based on the 1999 picture book written by Julia Donaldson and illustrated by Axel Scheffler.

The movie, along with The Gruffalo's Child, both aired on Sprout on December 22nd, 26th, and 27th in 2012 as one of their Merry Movies, with a viewing party being held on Twitter on the former day starting at 1PM ET.[1] The six photo-themed parties generated 631 tweets and 43,778 impressions.[2]

The two aired again the following year on December 3rd, 6th, 8th, and 15th and once again the year after that. It aired at 6PM ET during The Good Night Show on December 19th. Additionally, DVDs of both films were available on the Shop Sprout website. They aired on December 13th years later in 2015, with The Gruffalo airing at 4PM ET. By 2014, the film aired with a purple background on the sides of the screen.
