The Hoobs is a British-American-Canadian children's television series created and produced by The Jim Henson CompanyDecode Entertainment and Channel Four.

Plot

"Set in sunny, colorful Hoobland, The Hoobs are great explorers who learn about planet Earth by posing questions to the children they encounter along the way. In each episode, they try to find the answer to a question, which they put into Hubba Hubba Hoob’s great Hoobopaedia." (link)

History on Sprout

Sprout began airing The Hoobs, on December 25th, 2006. The network kicked off the American debut of the show with the Happy Hooby Holidays marathon. Additionally, the show had its own section on SproutOnline.com.

Happy Hooby Holidays is a 6-hour television marathon of The Hoobs that aired on PBS KIDS Sprout on December 25, 2006 in order to kick off the U.S. television debut of The Hoobs.

The 12 episode marathon was hosted by Tula and Groove, who appeared in newly recorded interstitials, bumpers and introductions as they discuss the show, the episodes and the holidays. 

The 6-hour marathon special re-aired on New Year's Day, January 1st, 2007. After that, it aired at 2:30PM and 5:30PM ET on weekdays and 1:15PM and 1:30PM on weekends. It additionally aired at 5:30PM ET on The Let's Go Show and later the The Sprout Sharing Show when the former moved to weekend mornings.

In April 2009, once it stopped airing on the Sharing Show and was replaced by The Mighty Jungle, it only aired once a day at 2:30PM ET until it was removed completely on August 23rd, a day before the premiere of Sprout's Wiggly Waffle. However, videos of the show remained up on SproutOnline.com for some time.

The show had its own Sprout Diner snack, "Hoobs' Hoobooberry Muffins."

United Kingdom

The series premiered on Channel 4 on 15 January 2001 from 6:00am to 7:00am, with two episodes being broadcast each weekday morning. The episodes were repeated from 11:00 am, finishing its run of 250 episodes on 3 January 2003. Although the series ceased production in the United Kingdom in 2002, it was regularly repeated in the same early morning timeslot for several years afterwards. It was temporarily taken off the schedule every year during the Christmas period and returned in the new year. However, 2014 was the final year that the series had been screened as it did not return following the Christmas holidays.

It also aired on Nick Jr UK from 2002 to 2004

International

It has also been shown in other countries, including North America (repeats formerly airing on Sprout) and Australia airing on both ABC and ABC2 from 4 February 2002 to 2 July 2011. The show was aired on Nick Jr awards. In Poland it aired on Polsat JimJam, TV4 and Junior. In Sweden, it was on SVT Barnkanalen. And in Hungary on Minimax (TV channel). In Spain, it was on Telemadrid. In Italy, Hop! In Israel, "Hello Hoobs" was on JimJam. In Germany, the show aired on KiKA.

In Brazil, it didn't air, but the show was released on DVD.
